Tyson Gay and Ethoppian Meseret Defar Named 2007 World Athletes

American double world sprint champion Tyson Gay and Ethiopian distance runner Meseret Defar were named the 2007 World Athletes of the Year on Sunday.

Both athletes received a $100,000 cash award at the International Association of Athletics Federations, World Athletics Gala.

Gay, 25, won three gold medals at the Osaka world championships last August, sweeping the 100 and 200 metres and running the third leg on the victorious 4x100m relay team.

In the 100, Gay clocked 9.85, relegating world record holder Asafa Powell of Jamaica to third. In the 200, he clocked 19.76, beating Michael Johnson's meeting record. He was only the fourth athlete to collect three gold medals at a single world championships.

Defar, 24, shattered her own world record in the 5,000 metres, clocking 14 minutes 16.63 seconds in Oslo in June, to lower her previous mark by more than eight seconds.

4 World Records at Berlin World Cup in Swimming
In the Berlin World Cup swimmers set the 4 world records. Star in the two-day event was Swedish Stefan Nystrand, who splashed two world records.

    On Sunday, Nystrand bettered the world record in the men's 50-meter freestyle by clocking 20.93 seconds, and a day earlier, a world record in the 100-meter freestyle by finishing in 45.83 seconds.

    The 26-year-old said his objective in the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is to bring home with two gold medals.

    "It's my aim to keep on improving, especially with regard to the Olympic Games next year. I would like to capture two gold medals there," he said.

    The veteran competed at the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004, but his best performance was a fourth place.

    For the women's events, Dutch Marleen Veldhuis updated the records she herself would not have imagined.

The last world record was set by Brazilian Thiago Pereira on Sunday, who clocked 1:53.14 in the men's 200-meter individual medley.

    Pereira also won the gold medal in the men's 400-meter medley a day earlier, just shy of the world record by 0.26 second.

Formula 1 Grand Prix Race 2010 Track in Greater Noida

Formula 1 Grand Prix Race 2010 Track will be created in Greater Noida. This will be a great opportunity for indians. India is growing very fastly at the rate of 10 percent.  We are very excited and fortunate that we would cater to the interest through this unique opportunity," Gaur said.

India hopes to host a formula one Grand Prix in 2010 took a concrete shape with F1 bosses striking a Rs 1500 crore deal with an Indian company to construct the race track in Greater Noida.  Indian Olympic Association had been instrumental behind inviting formula one to India.

Narain Karthikeyan became the first Indian driver in the formula one in 2005 when he joined Jordan, India's presence in the F1 pit grew with liquor baron Vijay Mallya jointly acquiring the Spyker team and renamed it Force India.
